English classes have started in our learning center in Zavkhan in the west of Mongolia. Dulamsuren Dorjtudev (Duya), the Head of the Learning Center, has improved her English teaching skills a lot in the last months so that she could finally start to offer classes.

Since the beginning of the year, Duya offers paid English courses to students. She currently has 17 students from grades 6 to 7. The courses started on 8 Jan’14 and finished on 15 Feb’14.

Until some time ago, Duya felt not confident about her English skills to teach English to students in the learning center. With the help of Uuganaa (Head of the learning center in Arvaikheer) who she visited for a week last year, she could significantly improve her English and teaching skills. Uuganaa has over ten years of experience with teaching English and is known among community members for her hard work, good skills and commitment for the goals of BOOKBRIDGE. Buyandelger, another experienced English teacher at the learning center in Arvaikheer visited Zavkhan for ten days in order to train Duya.

Duya uses an English textbook that Uugana has provided her with and trained her in using it in classes. Although the course fee is not very high (about 6 USD per student) it is already good start and can be increased further as Duyas skills grow. Duya’s effort and hard work have resulted in great achievements. Another positive aspect is that her success have encouraged the BOOKBRIDGE team in Mongolia because it has shown how the team can achieve good result by working together.
