Our Country Organization team in Cambodia works with diverse teams, not just with BOOKBRIDGE Capability Program, but our Community Heroes, and travels frequently in and out of the country. Also, our community heroes work mostly with children and students attending the offerings at their learning center. Therefore, getting them attended First Aid Training would help them in reacting to expected accidents that would happen at their workplaces.
A First Aid training was organized by mTwenty International and conducted by Ruth Penfold, a British registered nurse, at Anise Hotel in Phnom Penh on March 16, 2018.
Our Cambodia Country Manager and a Community Hero of our learning center in Chreav were sent to attend the training through quality initiative fund and their budget. Other participants are employees/workers of expat families or companies in Phnom Penh.
The one-day training mainly focused on practical emergency methods that could be simply applied at home and any workplace and save lives of the person who has an accident.
The morning sessions started with getting all the participants understood the role of the first aider. The trainer got everyone aware of DRABC (Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and Circulation) approach and each steps were explained giving real examples. The important part of the approach involved Emergency life-saving procedure, CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), in which every participants practiced with mannequins.
The afternoon sessions covered different topics of accidents and explanation on how the first aider could help and apply DRABC approach. The topics discussed and explained are Treating Chocking, Shocking, Bleeding, Burn, Seizures, Asthma, Drowning, Heat Exhaustion, Heat Stroke, Anaphylaxis, Head Injury and Snake bit.
Our Community Hero of Salariin Kampuchea Learning Center from Chreav, Siem Reap, Cambodia, shares his impression after the training: “The first aid training based on DRABC was great and useful to me. I really like it because I have gained knowledge and skills to save people’s lives when it happens to people around us. I will share it with my team so that they have ability to help others.”
