A new BOOKBRIDGE Capability Program, so-called IAP1, which is run in parallel with its program to be held in Europe in partnership with Zurich University of Applied Science, was kicked off locally with 7 candidates from Cambodia including Community Hero Sanha Nhor. Module 1 of the program was held in Steugn Sen City of Kampong Thom province from September 7 to 9, 2018.
The focuses on day 1 of the module were getting to know the local team members and understanding roles of the people engaging in the program: Community Hero, Local Candidates and BOOBRIDGE Cambodia Team, mapping their expectations from the program; introducing BOOKBRIDGE and the structure of its capability program and handing over the briefing note for the program to the participants.
The participants were engaged a little deeper into an understanding on social enterprise concept on day 2 of the module after discussing the challenges described in the briefing note. Setting up a joint vision for a social business – the future learning center to be owned by the Community Hero – was the first session the candidates actively engaged resulting a picture with a statement of their agreed joint vision for their future learning center and followed by Business Model Design session which lead the participated to engage in a group discussion on creating a business model canvas for their future learning center in line with their joint vision. The last session on day 2 focused on introducing the participants to “theory of change” getting them to think how they will apply this theory to create the impact they want to see for their future learning center.
Day 3 of the module was mainly a talk on understanding project management concept and discuss on how to organize their own team, team structure and their roles as well as going through project management IT tools mainly Teamwork and Zoom with getting candidates practiced on using them.
The entire module was wrapped up with clarification on timeframe for the upcoming modules of the program, especially, engaging with European candidate during their module 1 to be held in Europe as well as hearing feedback from the participants on their learning from this module.
