Susann and Marco are two volunteers working at our learning center in Takeo, Cambodia. In this post, they present themselves and their work at the center.

We are Susann (33, lawyer) and Marco (34, IT-specialist). Last year we spent our honeymoon in Cambodia and fell in love with the country. In Cambodia we met a couple of volunteers and visited an orphanage. We realized very soon that we as well could do something for the benefit of Cambodian children

We thus decided to leave Germany for several months. Through the contacts we made in Cambodia we got in contact with Lisa from BOOKBRIDGE. We met her in Freiburg and after talking a lot it was clear for all of us that we would go to Cambodia as BOOKBRIDGE volunteers.

To us it is an heartfelt wish to go to the learning centre every morning. During the last weeks we had the chance to renovate it and create new learning space together with the Capability Program team. At the center we teach English to kids through games and try to get them interested in books. We draw, sing and read with them and involve them in the creation of our activity-pin board.

The thing we enjoy most is the kids´ smiles, their laughs, the shine in their eyes and their cry We-don`t-want-to-go-home in the evening when it is time to close the learning centre. We thank BOOKBRIDGE for their great confidence in us and we are incredibly happy that we have the chance to positively contribute to the future of Cambodian children and youth!
